Roald Dahl - Great Stories For Your Kids

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Kids truly love stories. And kids love it when somebody takes the time to tell or read them a fine story. They usually have a few favourite stories which they want to hear over and over again. That’s good, because it allows them to continuously develop the mental images that go with the story and to make use of their own imagination. Some parents do a really great job helping their kind to develop their fantasy and to allow them to have inputs other than from TV. Others are unfortunately not aware, how important it is to encourage this capacity of imagination, fantasy and mental images. Video games and TV may be very parctical to keep kids busy and out of your feet, but they are not really helping the growth of your kids mental abilities.”I don’t have time to read stories to my kids” you may say. That’s truly a problem for some parents, more so if you are a working parent and if you have to take care of your household and kids after your regular work hours. That however does not mean that you can not stimulate the intellect of your kids with good stories. Fortunately, there are plenty very good recordings of childrens novels and stories for kids available. These audiobooks come either on Compact Disc in physical format or even more convenient, free audio books for kids can be downloaded from the internet and you can then either play them on your computer, burn them to CD and listen to them on a regular stereo or on your car audio system, or they can be directly played on an MP3 player.

The great thing is that many of these kids tales can be found for very little or even no money at all! The choice of audio books with kids adventure stories is very hughe and you are sure to find the audios with stories that your children love best.

Roald Dahl - Some of the more well known authors and stories are i.e. Roald Dahl and his series of well known and popular stories like i.e. “Fantastic Mr. Fox“, “The Witches” or “Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator“. These are the tales kids love. They are taken out of a fantasy world but contain parts that the kids recognize from their own daily life. The descriptions of the people and places where the story happens are detailed enough to provide the kids with a good base to start, but then the author leaves enough room for their own imagination. A good tale well told is really ‘cinema in the head’!

Step back a few minutes and close your eyes. Now try to remember one of the stories that you were told when you were still a kid, or if nobody told you a story (how sad…) try to remember a book you read then. Normally you will find that a combination of images and even feelings will pop up in your mind and you are taken back into a long forgotten fantasy world.

Be sure that your kids will be able to also experince these great recollection when they are grown up, help them develop one of the most important mental abilities, creativity and fantasy! With a good kids audio book you can wake up mental abilites that will be important for your kid the entire life …. and you will have a lot of really happy quiet hours yourself, as the kids will listen to these stories over and over again.

The Anatomy Of A Successful Life

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Dr. Creflo A. Dollar has written a book that has a number of really good pointers to what it takes to get your life on the right track: “8 Steps To Create The Life You Want: The Anatomy Of A Successful Life”.

His most important message: “Don’t wait until tomorrow for the life you want today“.

Dr. Creflo A. Dollar shows you a program of eight steps to the magnificent life you crave! Confidence, peace, and abundant life …. - we all long for these things. But in this life-changing audio book, the author who is also a renowned pastor Dr. Creflo A. Dollar challenges his listeners to stop only wishing for a satisfying life.

Instead, Dr. Dollar proclaims, we should be claiming the success that God promises today. We do not have to be defined by past failures or mediocrity; we must move forward into the richness available to us right now. God has designed a glorious destiny for each of us, and all we have to do is take hold of it. In order to seize our destiny, each of us must be willing to radically transform our lives. ‘If you don’t like the way you feel,’ says Dollar, ‘you’ve got to change the way you think.’ By taking manageable steps along the way, each of us can achieve life to the fullest; until it overflows.

Malcolm Gladwell - Blink - Audio Book

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Malcolm Gladwell is a very interesting character and a senior staff writer at The New Yorker magazine. His books are best sellers, and that with reason!

If you want to get an idea of the way he thinks and develops ideas, then you can find a great (free) MP3 download or you can listen to it directly online here:

IT Conversations

Highly recommended! Here’s what the short summary about this talk says:

Are our judgments influenced by the amount of information used in arriving at them? Does more information lead to better judgments? Malcolm Gladwell takes these knotty questions head on and weaves a very coherent story around the answers he suggests.

Snap decisions are much more complex than we think and even when we believe we are talking rational, well-thought out decisions we may still be largely driven by the initial snap judgment. We are always making snap judgments, as he illustrates in areas ranging from music audition to hiring CEOs and diagnosing heart attacks, and yet we know very little of what influences them. The more we learn how to control the stimuli for these judgments, the more likely that our judgments and decisions well be correct.

His books are availalbe for immediate online download here:

You: Staying Young - The Owner’s Manual for Extending Your Warranty

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

The body is the most fascinating machine ever created, and nobody talks about it in ways that are as illuminating and compelling as Dr. Michael Roizen and Dr. Mehmet Oz do.

In YOU: The Owner’s Manual they showed how the human body works in general, and in YOU: On a Diet, they explained how bodies lose weight and stay fit; both books have sold in the millions.

Now, in YOU: Staying Young, the doctors are going to talk about what happens as the body ages. As with their previous titles, Dr. Roizen and Dr. Oz have conducted tireless research and will introduce fascinating and crucial information in an unforgettable way. Most people think of the aging of their bodies the same way they think of the aging of their cars: The older people get, it’s inevitable that they’re going to break down—it could be in just a few ways or it could be in dozens of ways. Most people hold this notion that once they reach 40 or so, a slow and steady decline of the mind, eyes, ears, joints, arteries, libido, and every other system that affects the quality of life begins to take effect.

However, according to Dr. Roizen and Dr. Oz, that’s a mistake. Aging isn’t a decline of the body’s systems. It’s actually very purposeful. The very systems and biological processes that cause people to age are actually designed to help people when they’re a little bit younger. So what’s the role of those that are part of the aging population? To learn how these systems work, so they can be reprogrammed to work the way they did when they were younger. The listener’s goal should be: Die young at any age. That means living a high quality of life (with everything from working joints to working genitals) until the day they die. The doctors’ real goal isn’t just to make people live longer; it’s to allow them to maintain vibrancy throughout their entire lives.

The way both these experts explain what works how and why it’s important that we take care of our body and mind will change your future life!

Charlie Wilson’s War - George Crile - Audio Book

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

Charlie Wilson’s War is the untold story behind the last battle of the Cold War and how it fueled the rise of militant Islam. George Crile tells how Charlie Wilson, a maverick congressman from east Texas, conspired with a rogue CIA operative to launch the biggest, meanest, and most successful covert operation in the Agency’s history.

In the early 1980s, after a Houston socialite turned Wilson’s attention to the ragged Afghan freedom fighters who continued to fight the Soviet invaders despite overwhelming odds, the congressman became passionate about their cause and procured hundreds of millions of dollars to support the mujahideen.

Moving from the back rooms of the Capitol, to secret chambers at Langley, to arms-dealers conventions, to the Khyber Pass, this book is a detailed and brilliantly reported account of the inside workings of the CIA.

George Crile is a veteran producer for 60 Minutes and 60 Minutes II. He lives in New York with his wife and four daughters.

The narrator of this bestselling audio book, Christopher Lane is an award-winning actor, director, and narrator. Earning rave reviews on every book he has narrated for Blackstone, he received the coveted Audie Award in 2004. He lives in Washington, D.C.
